  CHARACTER

The festival August in Art
is conceptualized as a larger and broader than life review of contemporary processes
in the visual art, tolerant of the stylistic variances in it, evading the favouring
of a single trend or tendency.

He aspires to represent
the whole diversity of the contemporary artistic expression as a visual language, means, material and technologies.

Its Slogan, August in Art, visualizes not only the month of its carrying out, but also some more significant symbolic meanings expressing its founders wish to present the more valuable and aspiring acts of artistic creativity.

The various exhibitions in different museums, galleries and non-standard spaces,
the everyday presentations, artistic activities, meetings
of colleagues and

discussions, the musical, theatrical and literary salons, enriching  the program,
create this specific and
wanted festive atmosphere and offer the artistic circles and audiencesa meaningful spiritual experience.

The successful editions
of the festival so far reveal the significant potential and great versatility, scope and perspective of the so-devised August in Art project.

The character, level and organization of the festival have received the acclaim
of the most authoritative Bulgarian critics, the media, the gallery owners, the artists and the admirers of art.

They define the August in Art Festival as a high quality,
very significant and a very necessary forum of the visual arts, which does not have
an analogue in Bulgaria.

In this context the festival has already proved its worth and place in the cultural life of the nation.

A distinguishable characteristic of the festival is that the municipal museums and  private galleries in Varna unite and work together in their endeavour to reveal the best
in Bulgarian art irrespective
of their different professional status and specifics.

No compromise with the artistic quality of the presented work in favour of commercial interests and aims is allowed. This festival is not a fair of art and commercial approaches
do not figure there.

The August in Art festival has accepted and preaches tolerance and dialogue
as the main principles in the attitude towards art, artists
and cultural institutions,
as well as towards the selecting, programming and realization of the very event.
